Nicola Spendlove

Biography

Nicola is a writer, award-winning performer, and facilitator whose work is rooted in listening; to the body, to memory, and to the quiet places where voice first begins.

Originally trained as an occupational therapist, her path has unfolded across creativity, community and care, shaped by years of working alongside people in moments of change, loss and becoming. Her work in Ireland and internationally is guided by a deep belief that writing is not something we do, but something we return to.

Nicola is drawn to the thresholds of experience: grief, transition, reinvention, the places where the self has learned to go silent in order to survive. Through writing, she invites participants to gently call themselves back not to fix or improve, but to witness and belong.

As an award-winning performer, Nicola brings a keen sensitivity to voice, rhythm and emotional truth. Her facilitation is embodied and spacious, creating conditions where words can arrive without force. There is no pressure to perform, only an invitation to be present.

Alongside her creative practice, Nicola holds leadership roles in public life, working at the intersection of health, creativity and community wellbeing. This dual perspective holding both the intimate and the systemic allows her to meet writers with compassion, clarity and care.
