Skyros Blog
The local council on Skyros island in Greece - home to our holidays for the past 46 years - has voted unanimously to reject a proposed tourism expansion. This proposal, which included building marinas, cruise docks, and large hotels, faced strong opposition from both residents and local leaders.
This decision reflects the deep commitment of Skyros island residents to preserving the island’s unique charm and natural beauty. Skyros island is known for its simple, traditional way of life, its family-run local businesses, and its stunning natural landscapes - and that’s exactly how we all love it!
This is truly wonderful news and we're sure you will share our delight!
Mayor Kyriakos Antonopoulos emphasised that visitors come to Skyros for its peaceful environment, intimate settings, and the chance to experience Greek life as it truly is - not for large-scale resorts or crowded ports.
"We'd rather stay 'undeveloped' than lose what makes Skyros unique."
Skyros island is a hidden gem, offering both residents and visitors an alternative to the overcrowded tourist destinations that have become too common. Here, you can enjoy unspoiled beaches, lush nature, and the warmth of a close-knit community.
In support of sustainable tourism, we continue to invite you to experience Skyros in its natural form. Skyros remains a place where you can connect with nature, likeminded others, and the unique traditions of Greece.
We look forward to welcoming you to this stunning island, where we celebrate what truly matters.
With all our thanks to the island's local community and to all of you who value the irresistible charm of Skyros,
