Starting to Write Fiction with Kylie Fitzpatrick
Sat 26 - Fri 8 Aug 2025
Starting to Write Fiction
The secret to good storytelling is knowing where to begin. This course will guide you through the basics of writing fiction, focusing on opening pages, and introduce all the basic building blocks of the story, including:
- Imagining believable characters
- Point of View, voice and narration
- Creating settings and writing scenes
- Plotting a story
Freeing Your Voice: Reclaiming the Inner Writer
Voice is each individual writer’s most powerful tool for channelling ideas. Writing with your natural voice can transform your writing into something that affects readers from a deeper place, from beyond the words themselves.
Through instruction, discussion and practical application, Freeing Your Voice will guide you through techniques for writing both fiction and non-fiction, connecting you with your ‘inner’ writing-self, helping you identify the themes and stories that have meaning for you. This course will help you recognise the difference between the noisy, judgemental chitter-chatter of the mind, and the quieter, wiser voice of your inner writer.
